A Good Day
Steve's back in Wisconsin visiting his folks, so I've got the place to myself for the weekend. Sutee came over last night for Tibetan down the street and a good mix of conversation, Marvel Ultimate Alliance on the Wii and some carefree browsing at the local video store that has an impressive collection of actually good movies.
After beginning as all good weekends should with a lazy approach to getting out of bed and finishing a few errands around the neighborhood, I decided to head into the office for a while (something that probably shouldn't happen on a "good weekend"). The gist is that there's a lot to do at athena right now and I'm going to Germany to see Nick, Joy, and Mike in the 2nd week of April, so I'd like to get out from under this backlog before I am incommunicado for 9 days.
Anyhow, what makes this a more entertaining process than I might have expected is who I ran into on the bus heading to Watertown. I hope you Oliners are paying attention here because, yes, I ran into Mr. Jimmy Rising himself. Does it still count as failing the Olin Challenge if he's no longer affiliated with the school? We chatted about what we were both up to now - he's working on a start-up, doing software consulting to pay the bills, and doing a bit of teaching at MIT. So the meat of the day was occupied with unburying myself at work and catching up with someone I hadn't seen in a while.
When I got home, I had wonderful Tibetan leftovers and watched A Few Good Men which is a marvelously good movie and utterly astounding in the number of future stars that make appearances as characters.
I also had a chance to watch a cool demo of Spore which seems to be shaping up to be a pretty darn interesting video game. It's coming out sometime this year.
Thoughts of video games remind me that I'll soon have a computer actually capable of playing most of them...Michael Wu graciously helped me purchase and build my new desktop, so I'll be swinging by Olin tomorrow afternoon to grab it. The monitor should be arriving at my office sometime on Monday. If only I had the time to actually play it before Germany ;-).
I think I'm off to take a shower and read for a while...I may do a little more work tomorrow, but I think the main events will be dinner with friends, picking up my computer, laundry, and relaxing for a while...It was amazing how much better I felt on Thursday night when I came home and just didn't let myself do any work...
Hope you're all well.

It's good to hear you're doing well, but working on the weekend should really be forbidden. Have fun in Germany!
