Memories that last...

Chennai just won the IPL (Indian Premier League) cricket finals against Mumbai! I may have not been in Boston for the Red Sox world series win, but being in Havana (local bar) for the Super Kings win was pretty amazing...

And now over the course of the past several months I have developed an understanding and appreciation for both professional soccer and cricket...If I keep this up I might actually be a "sports guy"??!?!?

Why I like managing

Turns out that I really enjoy mentoring people about how to grow in their career and be good leaders...

I guess I support healthcare reform...

I don't really see much in this timeline of the provisions that I object to: http://www.kff.org/healthreform/8060.cfm

Though I think they should have more aggressive about cost-controls, there is at least minor discussion of it.

Reflecting on appraisals

Back in India until Feb 3rd and then back in Boston for 6 weeks! More will be posted at some point about Cambodia and Bali vacation which was awesome.

I'm starting to pen some initial thoughts on the appraisals I need to write and am starting to form the following concept: Promotions earned early are typically rewards for acting like you're already at that level. Promotions that happen after the "normal" period of time are reflections of solid performance at the level you're already at...Exceptions to this clearly apply based on the disfunctionality of the organization's promotional process.

Two more application result updates

I was just accepted to Northwestern's MMM joint degree program (MBA + Masters of Engineering Management), so I will actually have a hard decision to make between this program and Harvard. An exciting prospect when I get back from vacation on the 4th...

The wait is over...

Still waiting to hear from other schools I applied to, but I found out last night that I got into Harvard Business School. I've been in a strange dream-like state for the last 11 hours (when I wasn't sleeping) since I found out...I kept re-reading the decision letter over and over again...

In other news: Weena and I are going to Cambodia from Dec 23 - 30th and Bali from 30th - 3rd, then I'll be back in Chennai until ~March 1st when I head back to Boston. Seems possible at this point that I'll come back to Chennai again for a month in April or May - we'll see.

Rewarding

Being the first person to tell a potential new hire who's really excited to join that she got the job and seeing her face light up with joy is an incredibly awesome experience.

For all of the frustrations, I'm going to miss being a people manager I think...
