It's the end of the world as I know it...

Entries have entered and left my brain without being put into cyberspace quite a lot in recent weeks and months, but it seems a shame to not say something about today.

So here we go, in the immortal phrasing of Christie Lee, ZOMG! I'm an Olin graduate!
(okay so she didn't actually say that, but she could have)

It really hit me when we were standing there in our robes at the head of a tent filled with our biological friends and family and with the family we've built over the last fives years at Olin. This was it. Its the end of an era. (insert long pause while I'm overwhelmed by tears as I type)

The end of five years of some of the best memories and best people in my life. Walking across the stage was just surreal, but that moment when I could look backwards and know that we were finally here and there was really nothing left to do other than say goodbye.

It's so strange, I could huge and say goodbye to people for hours and hours today, but it's only when I stop and think about it that I just can't take it any more. It really is over and there's no going back. My friends and family. My comrades-in-arms. They all go to the winds...scattered across the country and the world.

I seem to just be repeating myself, so I think I'm going to sign off now.

To the members of Olin's first graduating class (that phrase has a much more emotional meaning now than it did a day ago), congratulations and good luck. We built Olin, now it's time to start fixing the world.

To the entire Olin Community. The last five years have been incredible. Thank you for everything. I will not disappoint you.

To my family, thank you for your love and support - I would not be here today without you. Thank you for believing in me and in Olin.

It's the end of the world as we know it...

So many memories...I just wandered out onto the Great Lawn to snag a couple of photos and decided to make a brief pilgrimage to West Hall. I have so many memories from that building and yet I walk around it now as its filled with '09 and it doesn't seem quite the same. The same thing is going to happen to every building. As the saying goes, "You can't go home again". And in some ways that's the saddest part of all. Even when we come back, it won't be the same. There's no more wandering into christie's room to chat. No more talking to Mike through the mirror or watching B5 with Julie and Joy. No more of so many things. It really is amazing how much can happen in a mere five years.

Mike and Steve were talking earlier this evening and they were right - it really is unlikely that we'll all ever be together again and there are some people who have been part of our lives at Olin that we might never see again. I really have no idea how to come to terms with that.

Okay, I need to finish packing so I can spend most of my time this morning saying goodbye.
